Why?

Posted on by Phil Daubenspeck

I sit at my desk and I plan for the summer. I plan lake days and BBQ’s and camping trips and hikes and ton’s of fun stuff. All these things for us to do with the Campus Life kids we work with. And sometimes I ask WHY? Why do I spend hours working on details, recruiting kids to come out with us, and making sure we are ready when they show up?

The answer… We love Jesus… I love Jesus! And no matter what it takes I want to reach these kids with His Good News. So if I have to stay up way too late watching movies, or go camping and sleep on the ground, or hike up a mountain. I am going to do my best and pray that the Father will open doors for me to have pointed conversations about Him and His love for them! I am going to be open to what the Holy Spirit leads me to say and be willing to say it, no matter how uncomfortable I am. And I am going to make sure we have a bunch of opportunities to hang out with kids this summer!

1 Corinthians 9:19-23
19-23
Even though I am free of the demands and expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralized—whoever. I didn't take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in Christ—but I entered their world and tried to experience things from their point of view. I've become just about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn't just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it! (The Message version)
